Microsoft Office 2010 has just been released and the Office Web Apps are available too. Office Web Apps are web based versions of some of the desktop Office 2010 programs. Being entirely web based, they require no additional software to be installed on your computer. The following web versions are all included:
Despite the fact that Office Web Apps offer only limited functionality, they are very similar in look and feel to their desktop counterparts. The beauty of these programs, though, is that they offer access to all your documents wherever you are, providing that you can get to a web browser or a smartphone. Bloggers, in particular, will like the facility to add PowerPoint presentations to their blog posts.
Your web apps documents are actually stored in a place called Windows SkyDrive and have 25GB of free storage space at your disposal.
Office web apps are billed as
lightweight, cross platform, cross browser web based versions of Word, Powerpoint, Excel and OneNote.
The consumer customer will be able to use the Office web apps for free, whilst business customers will be able to take advantage of a hosted subscription service or via volume licensing on their Sharepoint servers.
